Smart Cards Benefit 1 Million in Poverty Relief Project

Since the start of the project, the pilot has registered up to 1 Million beneficiaries. The fingerprints of the beneficiaries were checked for duplicate registrations by implementing our Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Each registered beneficiary is issued with a smart card containing personal details and fingerprints. The card is used for the time-and-attendance system, wherein they can present themselves for employment under this scheme. Bank accounts were opened for each beneficiary and payments are made directly into the accounts to reduce fraud and monitor cash in circulation.
