Largest Slovak Health Insurance Provider Now Uses Innovatrics Biometric Technology

Health care data are among the most sensitive personal information, therefore, it’s worth protecting it with extra caution. The largest health insurance provider in Slovakia, Vseobecna zdravotna poistovna (General health insurance company, VSZP) is now letting their customers register for mobile access via biometrics. “We’ve increased convenience and security of our mobile app, with facial biometrics providing the extra reliability and security of the login process,” CEO of VSZP Richard Strapko explains. VSZP is the first health care insurance company to add such a functionality.

Formerly, a client either had to use a grid card or visit a physical branch to activate the mobile app. Now it can be done from home, more conveniently and securely, to reap the benefits of online access. The client just takes a photo of their ID and a selfie, and Innovatrics technology does the rest. The onboarding solution compares the ID photo with a selfie and judges the client’s liveness.

To make sure that the ID is not stolen or fake, the app then sends the ID data to the central registry of the Ministry of Interior for comparison. With an OK from the registry, the app can then be sure that the user is indeed genuine and their health data is safe. “Only two Slovak banks and us use this functionality to provide extra security,” adds Richard Strapko. The solution for VSZP has been implemented by our partner Asseco CE.

The remote access is especially useful in case of repeated prolonged lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, when branches are either closed, or strict measures are in place that prevent large gatherings of people.
