Innovatrics Ranks First in NIST Face Analysis Technology Evaluation (FATE) Age Estimation & Verification (AEV) Evaluation

Innovatrics has achieved another milestone by claiming first place in the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) metric for age estimation and verification for face photographs in multiple categories, as conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Face Analysis Technology Evaluation (FATE) Age Estimation & Verification (AEV).

Our algorithm claimed the top rank in the MAE metric – a measure that evaluates the accuracy of age estimation by calculating the average absolute difference between predicted and actual ages – for face photographs across all three categories evaluated by NIST: Application (Remote Age Verification), Border (Kiosks), and Mugshots (Video Surveillance). Out of 20 competing vendors, it stood out for its precision in determining users’ ages, reaffirming Innovatrics’ status as the industry leader.

A key metric in this evaluation is the False Positive Rate (FPR), which indicates how often the algorithm incorrectly estimates a minor’s age as being above 25. We have achieved an impressive FPR of about 5%, making our algorithm highly reliable for businesses needing to comply with age verification regulations..
