In 2019, the Ministry of Interior of Thailand deployed Innovatrics ABIS for national ID issuance. In 2022, the government decided to build a secure and unsupervised identity verification platform using a mobile application in order to provide more efficient public and private services.
As an alternative to the physical ID card, the resulting digital identity token will enable citizens to access the remote services of any government or private organization. The main objective is to provide technology that makes digital IDs safer and more secure to use. It should make it extremely difficult to steal personal data while being accessible from a mobile app. The new solution presented a few challenges: passive liveness detection and OCR of the Thai National ID card. Another challenge was how to increase the face verification throughput on the ABIS side to meet the demand for digital IDs.

ABIS components will be orchestrated by the Nomad/ Consul cluster providing process management, scalability, and high availability to the solution.
Innovatrics document capture components, including OCR data extraction and authenticity verification on the server, can accurately read the Thai national ID. Together with its photo extraction feature, the selfies captured and sent for verification are powerful tools against identity fraud.
