BioCon is not just a European conference anymore. On July 26th and 27th, it opened its gates to guests from all over South America in São Paulo, Brazil. The keynote speaker was Ramon Fernandez, a professor of the National Police Academy specializing in dactyloscopy and a foremost expert in biometrics in the country. Despite the massive boom in biometric applications in Latin America, BioCon by Innovatrics is the only biometrics-focused conference in Brazil.
In two days, the guest speakers – including diverse companies that are leaders in their fields such as CertiSign, Integrated Biometrics, Topaz, Valid, Veridos, and many others – have shown how they use biometrics to improve various aspects of growing economies. Case studies included protection of football stadiums from both ticket scalpers and hooligans, fast and inexpensive DNA identification, contactless fingerprint scanning, and many more.
“We see a huge demand in using biometric technology everywhere where fast, accurate and reliable identity verification or identification is necessary, both in government and enterprise use. Moreover, our biometric solutions are trusted and very convenient to use, so our partners see very fast adoption rates by users,” explains Carlos Okada, Head of Innovatrics Brazilian office. The rapid pace of adoption of various uses is also a reason why the first transatlantic BioCon chose Brazil as the starting destination.
