Especially during remote identity verification, if customers don\u2019t get clear instructions, they can get frustrated and give up. Innovatrics saw these issues and decided to do the extra UX push that guides customers towards a successful onboarding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns bottom0\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Good UX is not just about design.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Collecting data to create an optimal user route through the onboarding process is just as important. Each customer should flow through the onboarding smoothly and finish on their first try.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h3 class=\"has-huge-font-size\">An extra UX push<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>How would you feel if someone told you that you failed, but didn\u2019t tell you why? If a blunt \u201csomething went wrong\u201d was the most you got as a response. Would you feel frustrated or even enraged? So what can you do about it?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns top0\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2>Walk them through it<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At Innovatrics, we noticed these were recurring issues that customers have with biometric verification, and decided to act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cInnovatrics is the biometric partner to many companies who use our solution to verify the identity of their customers in online onboarding. However, even good biometrics will not work properly if the customers don\u2019t understand the process. The best solution is to walk the customers through it.\u201d<\/p><cite>\u2014 Branislav Bajb\u00e1r, Product Designer at Innovatrics<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We created the walkthrough tips \u2013 a series of instructions tailored to fit the needs of both desktop and mobile devices.<\/strong> Their main purpose? Making identity verification easy for customers, and increasing the number of happy, fully onboarded, customers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2>What do the tips look like<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>People usually don\u2019t like to read instructions. Even our own research at Innovatrics suggests that people turn a blind eye to written guides during onboarding. What they react to are <strong>visual aids \u2013 icons or animations<\/strong>.<br><br>To suit the preference of our partners, <strong>we designed the tips using both icons and animations<\/strong>. So every partner can choose which set suits their app best.<br><br>While <strong>animations<\/strong> can <strong>attract attention <\/strong>more quickly, <strong>too many can extend the identity verification process<\/strong>. <strong>Icons<\/strong> are <strong>fast to understand<\/strong> but <strong>not as catchy<\/strong> to the human eye. If we didn\u2019t want the tips to become another information burden, we had to downsize and only work with issues that occur in at least 60% of failed verifications.<\/p><cite>\u2014 Branislav Bajb\u00e1r, Product Designer at Innovatrics<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>To make things easier, we categorised the tips based on where in the identity verification process the customer currently is:<br><br><strong>\u2013 Are they taking a picture of their ID?<\/strong><br>\u2013 Good, let\u2019s show them the tips for ID verification.<br><br><strong>\u2013 Are they taking a selfie to prove they\u2019re the same person as on their ID?<\/strong><br>\u2013 Great, we\u2019ll show tips for taking a good selfie.<br><br>This distinction helped us to integrate a maximum of four tips per use case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2>Choosing the right tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To create the best possible instructions, we looked at the photos and analysed how many times different issues came up.<br><br>For example, when taking a picture of their ID, we noticed that many customers struggled with <strong>bad lighting<\/strong>. To combatthis, we designed a tip that prompts the customer<strong> to not hold the ID against the light<\/strong> and to <strong>place it on a surface<\/strong> with a <strong>contrasting colour,<\/strong> such as a dark table.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video autoplay loop muted src=\"https:\/\/innovatrics.com\/trustreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/innovatrics_onboarding_2-4.mp4\" playsinline><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Not everyone is comfortable with taking selfies. Many onboarding customers don\u2019t realise that they should turn on the light before taking a selfie or face the camera up front. It may seem obvious now that we\u2019re talking about it, but many are not used to it and need guidance.<\/p><cite>\u2014 Viktor Bielko, Product Manager at Innovatrics<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Customise the tips for your app!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/innovatrics.vibration.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Group-2224.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4337\" width=\"340\" height=\"129\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Our partners are free to design their own tips based on what\u2019s in the package, or download and customise the tips we created. You can change their colours or tweak the text, so they fit your brand and interface.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2>Test test test<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though our goal was to design tips that work without text, we first had to put into words what the customers are going to think when they encounter a problem. To do that, our test group identified <strong>the most common words people use<\/strong> when they look at a problem photo.<br><br>We showed people a picture of someone taking a photo with the light behind them, making it hard to see the person&#8217;s face. When we asked the group to describe the photo, most of them said that the person should face the light, not the other way around. That\u2019s how we knew that the phrase &#8220;face the light&#8221; was important.<br><br>Next, <strong>we connected the key words with the visuals \u2013 icons and animations<\/strong>. The visuals had to remind people of the words they used to describe the problem photos. So, if an icon shows a cloth, phone and a sparkle, the customer will understand that he needs to wipe the camera\u2019s lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large width640\"><img src=\"http:\/\/innovatrics.vibration.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/table-832x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4351\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2>Smartphone or desktop \u2013 which one gets the job done faster?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Identity verification takes way <strong>less time on a smartphone<\/strong>. While it can take up to 50 seconds to complete the process on a desktop, <strong>on a smartphone it can be as fast as 2 seconds<\/strong>. This vast difference can be attributed to working with a webcam when on desktop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/innovatrics.vibration.sk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/mockup-1024x522.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4358\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking selfies on a smartphone is more natural to us. Also, webcams are often covered or positioned outside the field of view, for example up on a shelf, which makes it difficult to achieve a good angle. Poor lighting and a low-quality camera are not much help either.<br><br>Of course, we understand that some customers may still prefer using a desktop for onboarding. That&#8217;s why we&#8217;ve created <strong>walkthrough tips for desktop users as well<\/strong>. We did it by designing walkthrough tips for remote identity verification that are easy to integrate and even easier to follow.<br><br>We designed the tips because the way we build the<strong> UX around our core product matters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cEven small changes that are not technical or AI-based can improve biometric identity verification and lead to more successful online onboardings. Now we&#8217;ve also done the extra UX push.
